According to IHS Markit, nearly 500 million sets of consumer electronic devices with wireless charging were shipped in 2017, and it is expected to reach 100 million units in 2019. In 2017, there were about 90 mobile phones supporting wireless charging. Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) has entered a rapid development stage, and various innovative operation modes of wireless charging are also waiting to be launched, including many successful cases.
In view of the increasing demand for medium and high power wireless charging such as 5G combined with wireless charging and wireless charging for consumer electronic devices, handy tools, and medical devices, WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) and AFA (Air Fuel Alliance) are actively discussing industrial standards above 15W, which are expected to meet the needs of more consumers and applications.
Under the concept of "Industry Promotion and Standard First", the Industry Technology Research Institute of Taiwan, supported by the Technical Department of the Ministry of Economy, jointly conducted a seminar on "Wireless Power Transfer Combines with 5G Applications" in the lecture hall of the Department of Electrical Engineering of Taiwan University, in conjunction with the Colleage of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the National Zhongxing University and the TEMlAC.
Our CTO Mr. Dior Wu is also invited to share our experiences in construction and promotion of wireless charging ecosystem in the seminar, hoping to spread the seeds of wireless charging in the academic community and strengthen the promotion of the industry.
